During world war ll the United States purchased 300,000 pounds of chocolates from Gilberts factory. Those chocolates were called Caballeros and came in a tin that resembled a treasure chest with a slightly rounded lid. The government then shipped these tins to the Army, Navy and Marine Corps during the war. The company was owned by the Gilberts until 1964 when they merged with the Grammer Chocolate Co.
This tin measures approximately 8 inches by 4 1/2 inches and is 2 1/2 inches in height. A charming piece of history to add to your vintage collection.
