Clairol Mascara Touch Up Crayon Compact Vintage Art Deco Color Stick 1930's Cameo Compact Unused Rare
This is an extremely rare and lovely 1930's Art Deco compact mascara touch up stick or crayon by Clairol; in excellent to mint condition.
The Clairol Company was founded in 1931; and this was one of their very early products from the 1930's.
It is made of a red bakelite with a pretty cream colored cameo with an eye on the front of the compact; and it is hallmarked on the back "CLAIROL, Made In USA, Trade Marker, Touch Up Crayon". And also has the hallmark "Distributors, Clairol. Inc., New York, NY.".
The piece measures 2 3/8 inches high by a little less than one inch wide at the top.
To open you pull the left side tabs, and it swings out; then the top acts as a lever to rotate out the dark blue crayon. It has not been used, and has all the original crayon product inside. Overall condition is excellent to mint condition.
It would be used by adding a touch of water to the stick; and then applying it to your lashes.
You don't find many of these for sale anywhere, and it would be a rare and interesting piece to add to your vanity or vintage vignette.
On February 2nd 2014 one of these red Bakelite Clairol Mascara compacts sold for $356.00 plus $8.00 shipping. They are very rare and sought after, so don't miss out on your chance to own an unused one.
