Art Nouveau Silver Plated Purse 1912 Duplex Compact Purse Formal Dance Purse Extremely Rare
This is an extremely rare and lovely Art Nouveau early 1912 Duplex silver plated compact formal dance purse.
It's in wonderful condition, with no dents to the metal, but does have some minimal age related tarnish and wear.
The intricate raised design on this silver plated metal alloy is gorgeous, and has a blank cartouche on each side to have your initials engraved.
The interior has a leather change purse with snap closure, and a pocket behind it on one side of the purse. The other side has a pretty little framed glass mirror in good condition for it's age, and a fold out pad behind it. There is another pocket behind the fold out writing pad. There is also a place for a tiny pencil.
It measures approximately 5 inches in length by 3 inches; not including the clasp and chain. The chain adds an additional 5 1/2 inch drop from the top of the purse.
The clasp is very unusual in design; with a kiss clasp, and a beautiful etched locking mechanism the snaps down over the top of the clasp to secure it.
The purse is hallmarked inside the locking clasp with the patient date "June 25 1912". Please use the mouse over feature to see more details in our high resolution photos.
A fabulous and very rare piece in remarkable condition for it's age.
