1900's Sterling Silver Compact Purse Vintage Powder Compact Change Or Coin Purse

$ 299.99

This is a really gorgeous sterling silver compact purse that has a wristlet mesh style chain for easy carrying. These were popular for taking to a ball or dance in the early 1900's.

There is a covered compartment for powder and puff that has a mirror in the lid. The mirror is in excellent shape, with no damage, haze or loss of silver.

Also there are two spring loaded compartments for small change to be carried, as well as a spring loaded clip for currency or a ladies dance card.

This piece is made by the Webster Company from Attleboro, Mass. They were bought out by Reed & Barton back in 1950.

Closed this compact measures 3 inches by 2 inches at the widest point. The wristlet strap is 5 1/2 inches in length.

This piece is in fantastic condition, with all working clasps, hinges and springs. It does have a few very faint indentations on the back, but nothing that detracts from it's value or beauty, and are so faint they are barely noticeable.

It has what appears to be the initials "FMC" engraved in script, but with the busy engraved design on the lid and the script type it is almost impossible to read. I needed a magnifying glass, and still had a difficult time trying to decipher the initials.

It is hallmarked "STERLING" on the inside rim of the piece.

This gorgeous compact comes complete with a beautiful blue patterned silk snap closure gift pouch that is perfect for travel or display.

We have a great selection of purses and compact purses for every occasion, and in every price range.  Visit our quick links to find many more lovely choices.
